This is a 'gourmand' perfume. Gourmand has become a popular perfume type over the past couple of years. Gourmand perfume embodies the edible scents of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, whiskey, coffee, cupcakes, and cotton candy to name a few. This type of scent is nourishing and relaxing.
The Rise of the Gourmand Perfume
The rise in popularity of the gourmand perfume is undeniable. Even Oprah made a show about this new type of scent. Many French perfume brands in particular have caught on to this fad. The smell of chocolate truffles, pink peppercorn, freshly baked bread. These are all staples of the gourmand perfume.
Missoni's Missoni has a scent called chocolate ganache. What is interesting about this scent is that an accord of floral smells have been added to make it more of a grown up scent. There are gourmand scents for all ages. Another brand is a french house called French house called the Different Company. It has created scents based on the smell of food that does not even has a scent. It simply draws upon the mind's association with a certain food and what it might smell like if id did have a small. For example, Sel de Vétiver, or velviter salt has been one of their most popular. Although salt has no smell, it draws upon subconscious associations with salt, and makes a smell that reminds us of a salty breeze over dune grass. Not all gourmand scents are created equal, however. "I had made a deal with myself back when I was a young teenager that I would never be one of those cutsie wootsie girls with pink velvet jump suits with the word 'Juicy' written across the bottom. I am now a 24 year old professional, and I still do not ascribe to this style of fashion. At first, I never would have considered a perfume called Viva La Juicy, because I imagined it would smell too sweet, or to fruity. I wanted to be sophisticated.
But then I tried Viva La Juicy at the Drugstore on my way back home from work. I was just there to pick up floss and a toothbrush, when I saw this beautiful perfume bottle with a purple bow tie around the neck. I got curious, so I tried it on. And, wow! I felt like I had entered a world of comfort pastry foods and mint chocolate coffee. I wished I could take this feeling with me wherever I went. I left the perfume on me for another 5 minutes to see how it would interact with my skin. What I was left with was a sweet, edible, vanilla scent with sophisticated notes of jasmine and gardenia. Not what I had expected. I bought the fragrance.
After taking my perfume home, I got curious what others had to say about this fragrance. How did it rank on the social meter, and how popular of a product is it? Well, apparently the US has some top 100 list of best-selling perfumes. Viva La Juicy Perfume has been one of them since 2008, which is when it first came out. The testimonials seem to agree that it is not too sweet, but with enough sophistication that anyone of any age can wear it. Awesome!"
